Canada wins two medals in relay events at 2026 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Team Canada has come away with two medals in relay events at the 2026 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in Montreal, Quebec on Subsay. The Canadians won a gold medal in the men’s 5000 metre relay and a silver medal in the mixed 2000 metre relay.

In the men’s 5000 metre relay, the Canadian team was comprised of William Dandjinou of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Maxime Laoun of Montreal, Steven Dubois of Laval, Quebec, and Felix Roussel of Sherbrooke. Canada had a winning time of 6:56.578. China won the silver medal with a time of 6:58.309. Italy won the bronze medal with a time of 7:36.693. Canada benefitted by the fact that South Korea was penalized. It was determined that Jeong-min Lee had obstructed Laoun’s path to the finish line even though the Koreans got to the finish line initially first.

In the mixed relay, the Canadian team was comprised of Dandjinou, Dubois, Florence Brunelle of Trois-Rivieres, Quebec and Danae Blais of Chateauguay, Quebec. Canada had a second place time of 2:39.405. Italy won the gold medal with a time of 2:39.275. Belgium won the bronze medal with a time of 2:40.184. Canada reached the podium by 12.351 seconds. South Korea was in fourth place with a time of two minutes, 51.756 seconds.
