
Team Canada has won three more medals at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. On Sunday, the medals came in para biathlon and para snowboarding.
In para biathlon, Natalie Wilkie of Salmon Arm, British Columbia won a gold medal, and Mark Arendz of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island won a silver medal. Wilkie won the gold medal in the women’s individual para biathlon standing competition. Arendz won a silver medal in the men’s individual para biathlon standing competition.
Wilkie had a time of 33 minutes and 1.8 seconds. Zhiqing Zhao of China won the silver medal with a time of 33:33.5. Oleksandra Kononova of Ukraine won the bronze medal with a time of 33:37.9. Wilkie reached the podium by one minute, 37.2 seconds. Liudmyla Liashenko of Ukraine finished in fourth place with a time of 34:39.0. This was Wilkie’s seventh Paralympic medal in her career. Five medals have been in cross-country skiing and two have been in biathlon.
Arendz had a second place time of 30:52.5. Jiayun Cai of China won the gold medal with a time of 30:24.1. Marco Maier of Germany won the bronze medal with a time of 31:07.3. Arendz reached the podium by 38.1 seconds over Xiaobin Liu of China, who finished in fourth place with a time of 31:30.6. This was Arendz’s 13th Paralympic medal. Nine have come in biathlon and four have come in cross country skiing.
Canada’s para snowboarding medal came in men’s snowboard cross thanks to Tyler Turner of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Turner won the bronze medal behind gold medalist Zhongwei Wu of China and silver medalist Noah Elliott of the United States. This was Turner’s third Paralympic medal.
Meanwhile, in mixed wheelchair curling, Canada beat Great Britain 5-4 thanks too three points in the eighth end, and Norway 9-2 thanks to six points in the sixth end. Canada now has six Paralympic medals (one gold, two silver medals and three bronze medals).
