
Team Canada won the silver medal in a Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Saturday. The Canadian team comprised of Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Cassandra Brown of Vernon, British Columbia, and Saicha Grant-Allen of Hamilton, Ontario.
Canada won Pool B by defeating Ireland 21-8 and Puerto Rico 21-12 on Friday. In Canada’s win over Ireland, Crozon and Brown had six points each to lead the team. Plouffe led Canada with six rebounds, and Grant-Allen led Canada with four key assists. In Canada’s win over Puerto Rico, Plouffe led Canada with 11 points, Grant-Allen led Canada with six rebounds, and Brown led Canada with five key assists.
After winning Pool B, Canada next played Czechia in the quarterfinals and won 22-14. Crozon led Canada with nine points. Plouffe led Canada with 12 rebounds and three key assists. Then in the semifinals, Canada beat Poland 21-13. Grant-Allen made her mark by leading Team Canada in points (nine), rebounds (six), and key assists (four).
In the final, the Netherlands beat Canada 20-11 to win gold. Poland and Puerto Rico both won the bronze medals.
This was the first Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series event Canada has participated in this season. The Netherlands also won the first event in Chengdu, China on May 3. Canada is tied for second place in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series Standings with Australia. Both countries have 80 points. The silver medal will give Canada confidence as they prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
