Team Canada has won its first two games of the 2026 Women’s World Curling Championships in Calgary, Alberta. On Saturday, Team Canada defeated Team Sweden by a score of 7-5 and the United States by a score of 11-3.
The win over Sweden was a statement win for Team Einarson. Swedish skip Isabella Wranaa is coming off a gold medal in mixed doubles curling at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo with her brother Rasmus.
What Einarson’s team was able to accomplish was to put constant pressure on Wrana in the middle of the game. With the game tied at three, Einarson stole two points in the sixth end and one point in the eighth end to take a 6-3 lead. In Canada’s win over the United States, Einarson blanked American skip Delaney Strouse 7-0 in the second half of the contest.
Einarson explains why she had so much success with her hit and rolls and double takeouts.
“I think it is about ice reading and putting the broom in the proper spot, and perfect line calls. We have been making those big shots when we need them, and I think we need to carry that going forward.”
On Sunday, Canada faces China. Canadian third Val Sweeting explains what Canada needs to do to win.
“They are a good team,” says Sweeting. “Our rock positioning is going to be key, and figuring out those draw paths. If we keep up the communication, we’ll be ok.”
