
Team Canada has won the bronze medal game at the 2026 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Championship in the state of Minnesota. On Monday, Canada defeated Finland 6-3 in the third place game.
The win over Finland came after an undisciplined 6-4 loss to the Czech Republic on Sunday. In the third period against the Czechs in the semifinals, Canadian players committed 12 minutes in penalties.
In Canada’s win over Finland, Gavin McKenna of Whitehorse, Yukon, rebounded after a poor game against the Czechs. Of the 12 minutes in penalties that Canada took in the semifinal, McKenna had six penalty minutes. In the bronze medal game, McKenna was one of two Canadians with four points as he had one goal and three assists. Michael Hage, the Montreal Canadiens prospect from Oakville, Ontario, had four assists.
Team Canada also had two points each from Tampa Bay Lightning prospect and London Knights right winger Sam O’Reilly of Toronto, Ontario, and Calgary Flames defenseman Zayne Parekh of Markham, Ontario. O’Reilly had two goals, and Parekh had one goal and one assist for two points. The other two Canadian goal scorers were Philadelphia Flyers prospect Porter Martone of Peterborough, Ontario, and Vancouver Canucks prospect Braeden Cootes of Sherwood Park, Alberta. In the gold medal game, Sweden beat Czech Republic 4-2.
