It was an outstanding start for Canada in women’s curling at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. Ottawa’s Rachel Homan defeated Denmark’s Madeleine Dupont by a score of 10-4. The game was completed after only seven ends.

The turning point in the game came in the fifth end. Danish lead Denise Dupont had one of her stones removed because she herself removed a Sarah Wilkes stone that was on the centre line. After that Danish error, Team Canada applied constant pressure. When Madeleine Dupont was set to deliver her final stone, she was looking at five Canadian rocks in the four foot. Denmark could only remove one of the five Canadian stones. As a result, Canada stole four points. Then after Denmark scored one point with the hammer in the sixth end, Canada scored three points in the seventh end to win by six points.

There were three other statement wins in the first draw. The United States beat South Korea 8-4, Sweden beat Japan 8-4 and Switzerland beat Italy 7-4.

This was the only Canadian curling game of the day. Brad Jacobs got the bye in the only men’s draw and Homan is not on the ice for the second women’s draw of the day.
