Canada remains undefeated in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games

Team Canada remains undefeated in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. On Sunday evening in Canada (Monday afternoon in Beijing), Canada trounced the Russian Olympic Committee 6-1 to improve to a record of three wins and zero losses.

Six Canadians had multi-point games. Erin Ambrose of Keswick, Ontario, Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec, Jamie Lee Rattray of Ottawa, Ontario, Rebecca Johnston of Sudbury, Ontario, and Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario each had one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario had two assists. The other Canadian goal scorer was Sarah Fillier of Georgetown, Ontario.

The game however had significant controversy. When the game was about to start at 9pm, only the Russian Olympic Committee had come on to the ice. According to Aishwarya Kumar of ESPN, Team Canada was uncomfortable about leaving their locker room until they received the reports of the Russian Olympic Committee’s coronavirus tests. When they game did start at 10pm MT, Canada and the Russian Olympic Committee played with masks on. Then to start the third period, the Russians took their masks off when it was determined that none of their players had coronavirus. With Canada wearing masks, and Russia not wearing masks, Canada outscored Russia 2-0, as they got goals from Johnston and Poulin.
