
Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2025 FIBA Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Cup in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. On Saturday, Canada beat Spain 11-10 in the second of four quarterfinal games.
This game was a defensive battle with Canada controlling the play in the second half of the contest. Spain only scored four points in the last five minutes.
Saicha Grant-Allen, the centre from Hamilton, Ontario had a sensational game as she led Canada in points (six), and was the Canadian co-leader in rebounds (five). Paige Crozon of Homboldt, Saskatchewan also had five boards, while Cassandra Brown of Vernon, British Columbia had the lone key assist for Team Canada.
How good has the defense been for Team Canada in the knockout round? Well, they only gave up six points in 10 minutes in a convincing 18-6 win over Japan in the round of 16.
In the semifinals, Canada will face a Netherlands team that is red hot in the tournament. After losing their first two games of the tournament by scores of 21-16 to Japan and 15-11 to the United States, they have won their last four games. The Netherlands have beaten Chile 21-13 and the Czech Republic 21-15 to close out Pool B action, before beating Hungary 21-9 in the round of 16 and Australia 21-11 in the quarterfinals.
The other women’s semifinal is Poland versus Mongolia. The men’s semifinals will have Spain versus Germany and Serbia versus Switzerland.
