Canada reaches semifinals of 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup

Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. On Saturday at Ashton Gate Stadium in Bristol, England, Canada trounced Australia 46-5. They will next play New Zealand in the semifinals on Friday, also in Bristol. New Zealand won the other game on Saturday as they trounced South Africa 46-17 in Exeter. New Zealand has won the last two Women’s Rugby World Cup titles. Both times they have beaten England in the final.

On Saturday, the Canadians were led by Canadian Olympic silver medalist Alysha Corrigan of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, who had two tries. Canadian players with one try were Canadian Olympic silver medalist Asia Hogan-Rochester of Toronto, Ontario, Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Karen Paquin of Quebec City, Quebec, Sophie de Goede of Victoria, British Columbia, McKinley Hunt of King City, Ontario, and Fabiola Forteza of Montreal, Quebec. Corrigan and Hogan-Rochester won a silver medal for Canada in women’s rugby sevens at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Paquin won a bronze medal for Canada in women’s rugby sevens at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

On Sunday, France beat Ireland in the best quarterfinal game to date by a score of 18-13. In the other quarterfinal game, England is facing Scotland.
