Team Canada is in the gold medal game of the 2026 World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden, Utah. On Good Friday, the Canadian team skipped by Matt Dunstone of Winnipeg, Manitoba defeated Italy 9-7 in the qualification game and then Scotland 9-7 in the semifinal.
In the qualification game, Dunstone headed into the 10th end down 7-6. However, he scored three points in the final end to win by two points. Dunstone got fortunate because Italian skip Stefano Spiller came deep with his final stone. That allowed Dunstone to have an opportunity to win the game, and successfully made a difficult double takeout. Dunstone also had a remarkable shot in the sixth end where he scored two points on a challenging in-off. Canada trailed Italy 6-4 after seven ends but came back to win.
In the semifinal, Dunstone trailed Scotland’s Ross Whyte 5-3 after six ends. Then in the seventh end, Canada scored three points to take a 6-5 lead. Whyte was unable to remove two Canadian stones in a shot attempt and allowed Team Canada to take control.
Canada will face Sweden in the gold medal game. While Dunstone is looking for his first world championship title, Niklas Edin has won seven world titles in the past.
