Team Canada has defeated Sweden 5-3 at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championships in Stockholm, Sweden on Tuesday. With the win, Canada finished in first place in Pool A with a record of six wins and one loss in extra time for 19 points.

In Tuesday’s win, Colorado Avalanche centre Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia led Canada in scoring with three points as he had one goal and two assists. Another Canadian player who had a three point game was Philadelphia Flyers right winger Travis Konecny, who had three assists. In fact, one of Konecny’s passes went right to MacKinnon for a key third period Canadian insurance goal.

Two more Canadians had a multi-point game. Canadian Olympic gold medalist and Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, and Minnesota Wild defenseman and captain Jared Spurgeon of Edmonton, Alberta had two assists each. Crosby, who won the gold medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, delivered the perfect pass to San Jose Sharks centre Macklin Celebrini, who scored the game-winning goal in the second period on the breakaway. Meanwhile, the other three Canadian goal scorers were Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim of Elkhorn, Manitoba, Flyers left winger Tyson Foerster of Alliston, Ontario, and Nashville Predators centre Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario.

Canada will now play Denmark in one of four quarterfinal games on Thursday. The other three will have Switzerland versus Austria, Sweden versus Czechia, and the United States versus Finland. Canada will now be traveling to Herning, Denmark for their quarterfinal game.
