Team Canada has won their first game of the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation World Men’s Hockey Championship in Stockholm, Sweden. On Saturday, Canada blanked Slovenia by a score of 4-0.

Canadian goaltender Dylan Garand of Victoria, British Columbia had the shutout as he made 11 saves. He made four saves in the first period, three saves in the second period, and four saves in the third period.

It was a stingy Canadian defense for the most part. However, Garand made two exceptional saves. He made one nice save on a three-on-one as Slovenia had an unexpected odd man rush, and then made a tough save later in the game through traffic.

Nathan MacKinnon of Halifax, Nova Scotia led Team Canada with three points. The 2024 Hart Trophy winner and Colorado Avalanche centre had one goal and two assists for three points. New York Islanders centre Bo Horvat of London, Ontario had two goals for Canada on Saturday. Meanwhile, the other Canadian goal scorer was Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson of Summerside, Prince Edward Island.

Team Canada next plays Latvia on Sunday. The Latvians are playing France in their first game of the tournament on Saturday. There have been no significant upsets in the tournament to date.
