Team Canada has improved to a record of three wins and zero losses at the 2025 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships at Willie O’Ree Place in Fredericton, New Brunswick. The Canadian team comprised of Jocelyn Peterman of Red Deer, Alberta and Brett Gallant of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island defeated Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg and Oskar Eriksson by a score of 8-6 on Sunday.

It was a bit of a slow start for the Canadians, as Sweden scored three points in the first end. However, the Canadians responded well to early adversity. They forced Sweden to single points in the third, fifth and seventh ends, and made the most of it when they had hammer. Peterman and Gallant scored twice in the second and fourth ends, and had three points with the hammer in the sixth end.

Hasselborg and Eriksson are both Olympic gold medalists. Hasselborg skipped Sweden to gold in women’s play at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, and Eriksson was the third for Sweden when they won gold in men’s play at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Eriksson is also a seven-time world champion. Together, Hasselborg and Eriksson won gold at the 2019 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Stavanger, Norway. Interestingly, they beat Peterman and Gallant in the final that year, 6-5.

Canada is in a first place tie in Group A with Scotland and Italy at three wins and zero losses. Estonia and Australia lead Group B at three wins and zero losses.
