Canada beats Sweden 9-7 at Women’s World Curling Championship

Team Canada came through with a big 9-7 win over Sweden on Sunday at the 2025 Women’s World Curling Championship in Uijeobgbu, South Korea. This was the second Canadian win of the tournament, as they clobbered Lithuania 13-2 on Saturday. The Canadians, skipped by Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario, have a record of two wins and one loss, as they were upset 8-7 by Scotland on Saturday.

It was a strong rebound for Homan’s team, as they got off to a sluggish start. Sweden actually stole two first round points when Homan was light with her draw. Tbe Canadians put significant pressure on the Swedes for the next six ends. Canada actually outscored Sweden 8-1 from the second to seventh ends thanks to a steal in the third end and four points with the hammer in the fifth end. Canada also capitalized on some key mistakes by Swedish third Sara McManus, who had a significant flash, and skip Anna Hasselborg, who mismanaged some of the angles with some of her shot attempts.

There are two teams currently tied for first place at three wins and zero losses. There you can find Switzerland’s Silvana Tirinzoni, and the host team from South Korea, skipped by Eun-ji Gim.
