Canada beats Finland 5-0 in women’s hockey at 2026 Winter Olympic Games

Team Canada has finished pool play in the women’s hockey tournament at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. The Canadians came through with a victory on Thursday, as they defeated Finland 5-0. It was a key rebound victory for Canada, as they lost 5-0 to the United States on Tuesday.

Four players led Canada with two points. Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emily Clark of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan had two goals, Kristin O’Neill of Oakville, Ontario had one goal and one assist, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario had two assists, and Julia Gosling of London, Ontario also had two assists. The other two Canadian goal scorers were Daryl Watts of Toronto, Ontario and Jennifer Gardiner of Surrey, British Columbia.

Meanwhile, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec made 17 saves for the shutout. She made four saves in the first period, six saves in the second period and seven saves in the third period. Desbiens, Clark and Stacey won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. 

With the win, we know that Canada will finish in second place in Group A with a record of three wins and one loss. Canada will face Germany in one of four quarterfinals. The other three quarterfinals are the United States versus Italy, Finland versus Switzerland and the Czech Republic versus Sweden.
