Canadian Olympic gold medalist Camryn Rogers of Richmond, British Columbia has broken her own Canadian record in the women’s hammer throw. She accomplished the feat at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas on Thursday with a throw of 81.13 metres.

Rogers’s previous record was 80.51 metres. That throw came when she won the gold medal at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Rogers is the second best female hammer thrower of all-time. The best is Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland. Wlodarczyk had three throws better than Rogers. They were 82.29 metres at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, 82.98 metres at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial event in Warsaw, Poland on August 28, 2016 and 82.87 metres at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial event in Cetniewo, Poland on July 29, 2017.

When Rogers won the gold medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, her throw was only 76.97 metres. It is clear that Rogers is in a class by herself in the women’s hammer throw at the moment, and is the gold medal favourite at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Rogers is one of three Canadians to set a Canadian record in athletics in 2026. Kieran Lumb of Vancouver, British Columbia posted a time of 27 minutes and 50 seconds in the men’s 10 kilometre road race in Valencia, Spain on January 11. Lumb finished 31st. Rory Linkletter of Calgary, Alberta had a time of 59 minutes and 49 seconds in the men’s half marathon in Houston, Texas on January 11. Linkletter finished seventh.
