Cam Talbot records 27th career NHL shutout

Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario recorded his 27th career National Hockey League shutout on Tuesday. He made 26 saves as the Minnesota Wild beat the Montreal Canadiens 2-0.

Talbot made eight saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period. Jeff Petry led the Canadiens with five shots on goal. The Wild goal scorers were Kevin Fiala and Matt Boldy.

In 2021-22, Talbot now has a record of 30 wins, 12 regulation losses, and four losses in extra time. He has a goals against average of 2.78, and a save percentage of .911.

This was Talbot’s third shutout of the season. He previously blanked the Chicago Blackhawks 2-0 on February 2, and the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 on March 21. Of Talbot’s 27 career NHL shutouts, 12 have been with the Edmonton Oilers, eight with the New York Rangers, five with the Minnesota Wild, and two with the Calgary Flames.

The Wild meanwhile are playoff bound. They have a record of 48 wins, 21 regulation losses, and seven losses in extra time for 103 points. The Wild are tied for second place in the Central Division with the St. Louis Blues. The Blues were beaten 3-2 on Tuesday in overtime to the Boston Bruins. In the process, they had their nine game winning streak snapped.
