Miami Marlins starting pitcher Cal Quantrill of Port Hope, Ontario became the second Canadian pitcher of all-time to throw an immaculate inning according to Rogers Sportsnet. He accomplished the feat in a 5-1 Marlins win over the Tampa Bays on Sunday.

Quantrill struck out Jonathan Aranda, Christopher Morel and Kameron Misner on only nine pitches in the top of the fourth inning. This was the first immaculate inning of the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season.

The first Canadian pitcher to throw an immaculate inning was Rich Harden of Victoria, British Columbia. Harden accomplished the feat in the top of the first inning while with the Oakland Athletics on June 8, 2008. Harden struck out Maicer Izturis, Howie Kendrick and Garret Anderson in a 7-3 Athletics win over the Los Angeles Angels.

Quantrill has had three very solid performances with the Marlins this season. He threw five scoreless innings in a 4-0 Marlins win over the Atlanta Braves on April 5, and gave up only one run during five innings in a 5-4 Marlins win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 6. Quantrill has not pitched more than 5 2/3 innings at any point in 2025.

With the win, the Marlins improve to a record of 18 wins and 27 losses. They are in the basement in the National League East.
