Canadian Olympic silver medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes of Toronto, Ontario have won their opening game of the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Adelaide, Australia. On Saturday in Australia (Friday evening in Canada), Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes trounced Mahassine Siad and Dino Mellal of Morocco, 21-4, 21-9.
Wilkerson scored 16 points and Humana-Paredes scored 13 points. Wilkerson had nine attack points, four points from the block and three aces. Humana-Paredes had 11 attack points and two aces.
Team Canada is in a first place tie with the Netherlands in Pool J at the moment. The Netherlands duo of Kaja Stam and Raisa Schoon defeated Clemence Vieira and Aline Chamereau of France 21-14, 21-15.
Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson have both won one medal at the World Beach Volleyball Championships in the past but with different partners. Humana-Paredes won the gold medal alongside Sarah Pavan of Kitchener, Ontario at the 2019 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Hamburg, Germany. In the final, Humana-Paredes and Pavan beat Alix Klineman and April Ross of the United States 23-21, 23-21. Wilkerson won the silver medal at the 2022 World Beach Volleyball Championships in Rome alongside Sophie Bukovec of Toronto. When Wilkerson and Humana-Paredes won their Olympic silver medal, it came at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson next play Stam and Schoon at 2 am MT on Sunday.
