The Toronto Blue Jays came through with an extremely impressive week. The reason is simple. They swept the San Diego Padres, who many consider are a World Series contender. The Blue Jays beat the Padres by scores of 3-0 on Tuesday, 14-0 on Wednesday, and 7-6 in 11 innings on Thursday.

The sweep at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario helped improve the Blue Jays record to 25 wins and 24 losses. They are in second place in the American League East and five games back of the New York Yankees. The Blue Jays are two games back of the Cleveland Guardians, Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals for a wildcard spot.

In Tuesday’s game, the Blue Jays got a solo home run from first baseman Vladimir Guerrero of Montreal, Quebec and a two-run home run from Anthony Santander. Meanwhile, Chris Bassitt had a quality start, as he threw six shutout innings (six strikeouts, one walk, and four hits allowed). Brendon Little and Yariel Rodriguez each had holds, and Jeff Hoffman had a save.

In Wednesday’s game, the Blue Jays had a grand slam from Daulton Varsho, and a two-run home run from Nathan Lukes. It should be noted that Lukes led the Blue Jays with three hits, and Ernie Clement led the Blue Jays with three runs. On the mound, Kevin Gausman was spectacular as he threw seven shutout innings, and had nine strikeouts compared to zero walks, and only gave up three hits.

In Thursday’s game, the Blue Jays won the game with two runs in the bottom of the 11th inning. Lukes had the game winning RBI with a single that scored Varsho. Addison Barger led the Blue Jays with three hits, Tyler Heineman led the Blue Jays with two runs scored, and Varsho led the Blue Jays with two runs batted in. Braydon Fisher recorded his first MLB win, while Mason Fluharty, Chad Green and Yimi Garcia had holds.
