As a result, they are tied with the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East. The Yankees swept the San Francisco Giants over the weekend.
In the Blue Jays’s regular season opener on Friday, the Blue Jays got a quality start from starting pitcher Kevin Gausman. The right handed All-Star threw six innings, had 11 strikeouts, and only gave up one earned run. Louis Varland and Tyler Rogers each had a hold, and closer Jeff Hoffman got the win. Ernie Clement scored two runs and scored the game-winning run, and Andres Gimenez had a triple.
In the Blue Jays’s win over the Athletics on Saturday, it was another strong game for Gimenez as he had four hits (all singles). Alejandro Kirk hit the first home run for the Blue Jays in 2026, while Spencer Miles got the win in his Major League debut. Also on the mound, Dylan Cease had 12 strikeouts.
In the Blue Jays’s win over the Athletics on Sunday, three Blue Jays player had solo home runs. They were Springer, Jesus Sanchez and Kazuma Okamoto. Eric Lauer had the win, Braydon Fisher, Tommy Nance and Mason Fluharty had holds and Hoffman had his first save of the season.
