The Toronto Blue Jays have set a franchise record for their longest home winning streak with 11 wins. Their previous record was 10 wins which was set from July 21 to August 3, 1985.
During the 11 game winning streak, the Blue Jays beat the New York Yankees in a four game sweep from June 30 to July 3, by scores of 5-4, 12-5, 11-9, and 8-5, the Los Angeles Angels from July 4 to 6 by scores of 4-3, 4-3, and 3-2, the San Francisco Giants from July 18 to July 20 by scores of 4-0, 6-3, and 8-6, and the Yankees again on Monday by a score of 4-1. In the 11 game home winning streak, the Blue Jays have outscored their opponents, 69-41.
On Monday night in the Blue Jays’s latest win, Toronto scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The major reason for the Blue Jays success in the inning was because of sloppy defense by the Yankees. New York third baseman Oswald Pereza and shortstop Anthony Volpe both made key throwing errors.
Toronto is now at 59 wins and 41 losses for the season. They lead the second place Yankees by four games in the American League East. There are only two teams in all of Major League Baseball that have a better record than the Blue Jays at the moment. The Milwaukee Brewers are at 60 wins and 40 losses, and the Detroit Tigers are at 60 wins and 41 losses.
