Blue Jays remain red hot after sweeping Cardinals

The Toronto Blue Jays are the hottest team in Major League Baseball at this time. They are winners of 12 of their last 14, and this week swept the St. Louis Cardinals in the state of Missouri. Toronto has improved to a record of 38 wins and 30 losses, and are four games back of the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East. They are also in the top wildcard spot in the American League and lead the Cleveland Guardians by two and a half games for a playoff spot.

In the first game of the three game series on Monday, the Blue Jays defeated the Cardinals 5-4 in 10 innings. Catcher Alejandro Kirk led the Blue Jays with four hits, of which three were extra base hits. He had two doubles and one home run. Meanwhile, Jonatan Clase hit the game-tying home run in the ninth inning. Jose Berrios had 6 2/3 shutout innings, Yariel Rodriguez had the win, and Jeff Hoffman notched the save.

In the second game of the series on Tuesday, the Blue Jays defeated the Cardinals 10-9. Kirk and Bo Bichette led the Blue Jays with three runs and three hits each. Kirk and Andres Gimenez each homered. Chris Bassitt had the win, and Hoffman had the save.

In the third game of the series on Wednesday, the Blue Jays defeated the Cardinals 5-2. Third baseman Ernie Clement was the top Blue Jays offensive player with three hits (one double and one home run). Spencer Turnbull recorded the victory. Brendon Little had the win, and Rodriguez had the save.
