
The Toronto Blue Jays made a managerial change on Wednesday prior to their 8-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Toronto decided to fire Charlie Montoyo and replace him with John Schneider according to Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
This will be Schneider’s first managerial job. The 42-year-old from Princeton, New Jersey has been with the Blue Jays organization since 2008. Among his roles include being a catching instructor, manager of the Gulf Coast League Blue Jays in Rookie Ball, the Vancouver Canadians of the Northwest League, the Lansing Lungnuts of A Ball, the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League, a Major League coach with the Blue Jays with a specialty on working with catchers, and the Blue Jays bench coach. Schneider has also won league championships with the Canadians, Dunedin Blue Jays and Fisher Cats.
At this time the Blue Jays are tied for third place in the American League East with a record of 47 wins and 43 losses. After Toronto beat Philadelphia in both games of a two-game series, the Blue Jays lost 3-1 to the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. Toronto is in a playoff spot at this time, as they are tied with the Boston Red Sox for the final wildcard position.
