
The Chicago Blackhawks have traded centre Joe Veleno of Montreal, Quebec to the Seattle Kraken on Saturday according to Cory Wilkins of Daily Faceoff. In return, the Blackhawks received left winger Andre Burakovsky.
The Kraken will be the third National Hockey League franchise for Veleno. He has previously played five seasons with the Detroit Red Wings from 2021 to 2025. Also this past season, Veleno played 18 games with the Blackhawks.
In 74 games this past season, Veleno had eight goals and nine assists for 17 points. He was a -23 with 17 penalty minutes, 75 shots on goal, 201 faceoff wins, 44 blocked shots, 139 hits, 13 takeaways, and 44 giveaways.
Veleno had one multi-point game this past season. It came in a 7-4 Blackhawks win over the Philadelphia Flyers at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on March 23. Veleno had one goal and one assist for two points. Veleno put the Blackhawks up 2-1 at 8:01 of the first period from left winger Tyler Bertuzzi of Sudbury, Ontario and Philipp Kurashev. Veleno’s assist came on a goal by Bertuzzi at 2:37 of the second period to put the Blackhawks up 4-3.
Burakovsky previously played for Washington and Colorado, in addition to Seattle. He had 10 goals and 27 assists for 37 points in 79 games last season with the Kraken.
