
Bianca Andreescu of Mississauga, Ontario has reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 Libema Open in Rosmalen, Netherlands. On Thursday, Andreescu made the final eight by delivering an upset in the second round. Andreescu. the 118th ranked player in the world, stunned the seventh seed, and 43rd ranked player, Lulu Sun of New Zealand in dramatic fashion, 6-0, 6-4.
It was a spectacular day for the 2019 United States Open champion. Andreescu broke Sun four times in seven opportunities. Next up for Andreescu is Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania, the 65th ranked player in the world. This is their first ever meeting head-to-head.
Andreescu is one of three Canadian tennis players in the quarterfinals this week. She is joined by 2021 United States Open semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime of Montreal, Quebec, and Gabriel Diallo, who also hails from Montreal. Auger-Aliassime will be facing Justin Engel of Germany in the quarterfinals of the 2025 BOSS Open in Stuttgart, Germany. This will be their first ever meeting head-to-head. Meanwhile, Diallo, like Andreescu, is in the Netherlands this week. He is up against Karen Khchanov of Russia. The Russian grand slam semifinalist is undefeated all-time against Diallo as he has won all three matches head-to-head. Khachanov is also ranked third in the Netherlands.
