Atletico Ottawa wins 2025 CPL Championship

Atletico Ottawa has won the 2025 Canadian Premier League Final. On Sunday, Atletico Ottawa beat Cavalry FC 2-1 from Toronto Dominion Place Stadium in Ottawa, Ontario. This was the seventh CPL championship, and the first time Atletico Ottawa came out on top.

Attacking midfielder David Rodriguez was the hero for Atletico Ottawa. He scored two goals. The first goal was on a bicycle kick in the 40th minute, and the second goal was the game-winner in the 107th minute. Rodriguez was named the Canadian Premier League Final Most Valuable Player.

Atletico Ottawa finished in second place in the regular season standings. They had a record of 15 wins, two losses and 11 draws for 56 points. They were only two points back of the Forge FC, which is based out of Hamilton. Ontario. Forge FC had 58 points as they had a regular season record of 16 wins, two losses and 10 draws.

However, in the postseason, Forge FC was unable to win a game. They lost 2-1 to Atletico Ottawa in the first semifinal, and then 1-0 to Cavalry in the second semifinal.

This was the third championship final in soccer this past weekend played in snowy conditions in Canada. York University won the 2025 USport Canadian Men’s Soccer Championship in Toronto on Saturday, and the University of Montreal won the 2025 USport Women’s Soccer Championship in Hamilton on Sunday.
