
New Jersey Devils left winger Anthony Duclair of Pointe-Claire, Quebec recorded his fourth career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a dominant 9-0 New York Islanders win over the New Jersey Devils at there UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.
Duclair’s first goal was at 4:01 of the first period from defenseman Adam Pelech of Toronto, Ontario. He put the Islanders up 2-0. Duclair then put the Islanders up 3-0 at 13:31 of the first period. Casey Cizikas of Toronto had the lone assist. Then, Duiclair put the Islanders up 4-0 from Mathew Barzal of Coquitlam, British Columbia and defenseman Tony DeAngelo at 3:29 of the second period.
Duclair had a spectacular game as he had three goals and two assists for a career-high five points and was a +6. Other Canadians on the Islanders with a multi-point game were Cizikas (two goals and one assist for three points), Barzal (one goal and two assists for three points), and defenseman Ryan Pulock of Dauphin, Manitoba (two assists). Another Canadian player to score on the Islanders was centre Calum Ritchie of Oakville, Ontario.
Duclair’s first NHL hat trick came on October 14, 2015 in a 4-0 Arizona Coyotes win over the Anaheim Ducks. Duclair’s second NHL hat trick came on November 18, 2017 in a 3-2 Coyotes win over the Ottawa Senators. Duclair’s third NHL hat trick came on December 14, 2019 in a 4-3 Ottawa Senators win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Duclair now has four hat tricks with three different teams.
In 40 games with the Islanders this season, Duclair has seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points. He is a +5 with eight penalty minutes, two power-play points, one game-winning goal, 50 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, 24 blocked shots, three hits, four takeaways and 15 giveaways. Duclair’s game-winning goal came on December 2 in a 2-1 Islanders win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Duclair scored from Ritchie and DeAngelo at 5:30 of the third period. At the time, the Islanders went up 2-0.
With the win over the Devils, the Islanders improved to a record of 24 wins, 15 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 52 points. They are in second place in the Metropolitan Division and three points back of the first place Carolina Hurricanes.
