Ann-Renee Desbiens records seventh career PWHL shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec recorded her seventh career Professional Women’s Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. She accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Montreal Victoire win over the Vancouver Goldeneyes at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec. The victory was significant for the Victoire as they clinched a PWHL playoff spot.

Desbiens made 18 saves overall for the shutout. She made four saves in the first period, eight saves in the second period, and six saves in the third period.

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario led the Victoire in scoring with two assists for two points. Stacey and Desbiens won an Olympic gold medal for Team Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Anyway you look at it, it has been a spectacular season for Desbiens. She leads the PWHL this season with a 1.14 goals against average, and has a record of 15 wins, four regulation losses, and two losses in extra time, with six shutouts and a .954 save percentage.

With the win, the Victoire improved to a record of 17 wins (13 regulation wins and four wins in extra time), five regulation losses and two losses in extra time for 49 points. They are two points back of the first place Boston Fleet.
