Ann-Renee Desbiens records eighth career PWHL shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Ann-Renee Desbiens of La Malbaie, Quebec recorded her eighth career Professional Women’s Hockey League shutout on Saturday. She accomplished the feat in a 1-0 Montreal Victoire win over the Boston Fleet at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

Desbiens made 20 saves for the shutout. She made six saves in the first period, five saves in the second period, and nine saves in the third period.

Lina Ljungblom scored the only goal of the hockey game. She scored from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Laura Stacey of Kleinburg, Ontario and defenseman Nicole Gosling of London, Ontario at 5:52 of the third period. Desbiens and Stacey won the gold medal for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

Anyway you look at it, Desbiens has had a spectacular season for the Victoire. She has a record of 17 wins, four regulation losses, and two losses in extra time, with seven shutouts, a goals against average of 1.08 and a save percentage of .956.

The Victoire this season are the best team in the PWHL. They have a record of 16 regulation wins, four wins in extra time, five regulation losses and two losses in extra time for 58 points. They have a four point lead on the Fleet.
