We now know the finalists for the 2025 Grey Cup in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Montreal Alouettes will face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on November 16 from Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Both Grey Cup semifinal games on Saturday were very compelling. The Alouettes defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 19-16 in the Eastern Final from Hamilton Stadium. The Roughriders then beat the British Columbia Lions 24-21 in the Western Final at Mosaic Stadium in Regina, Saskatchewan.
In the Alouettes’s win over the Tiger-Cats, Alouettes kicker Jose Maltos made four field goals including the game-winning field goal for 45 yards on the final play of the game. In the Roughriders’s win over the Lions, Roughriders wide receivers Kiran Schaffer-Baker of Mississauga, Ontario and Tommy Nield of Guelph, Ontario both caught three yard touchdown passes from Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris. Schaffer-Baker put the Roughriders up 11-7 at 4:45 of the third quarter. Nield put the Roughriders up 24-21 with 11 seconds left in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring. Schaeffer-Baker had three catches for 56 receiving yards and Nield had three catches for 29 receiving yards.
This will be the third time in the history of the Grey Cup that the Roughriders are playing the Alouettes. They first played in 2009 and the second time was in 2010. Both Grey Cups were in Alberta with the Alouettes winning 28-27 in Calgary in 2009, and 21-18 in Edmonton in 2010. They 2009 Grey Cup was famous because the Alouettes missed a field goal on the final play of the game, but had an opportunity to rekick a field goal attempt because the Roughriders had 13 men on the football field.
