Alexis Lafreniere records second career NHL hat trick

New York Rangers left winger Alexis Lafreniere of St-Eustache, Quebec recorded his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Tuesday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 New York Rangers win over the Calgary Flames at New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Lafreniere scored a goal in each period. He opened the scoring with a game-winning goal on the power-play with two minutes and 33 seconds left in the first period. Mika Zibanejad and defenseman Adam Fox had the assists. Lafreniere then put the Sabres up 3-0 with three minutes and 29 seconds left in the second period from Gabriel Perreault of Sherbrooke, Quebec and Zibanejad. Lafreniere then closed the scoring from Perreault and Urho Vaakanainen with two minutes and 18 seconds left in the third period.

Lafreniere’s first NHL hat trick came on March 30, 2024. It was in an 8-5 Rangers win over the Arizona Coyotes.

In 2025-26, Lafreniere has 18 goals and 24 assists for 42 points in 64 games. He is a -10 with 16 penalty minutes, eight power-play points, five game-winning goals, 125 shots on goal, seven faceoff wins, 39 blocked shots, 79 hits, 18 takeaways, and 37 giveaways.

Lafreniere was the first overall pick in the 2020 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He played his junior hockey with the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
