Alexis Lafreniere named NHL First Star of the Week

New York Rangers left winger Alexis Lafreniere of St-Eustache, Quebec has been named the National Hockey League first star of the week for the week from March 9-15, 2026. In four games, Lafreniere had five goals and two assists for seven points.

Lafreniere’s week was highlighted by his second career National Hockey League hat trick. It came on March 10 in a 4-0 Rangers shutout win over the Calgary Flames at Madison Square Garden.

Also this past week, Lafreniere was also a +5 with two power-play points, two game-winning goals, 13 shots on goal, one blocked shot, and two giveaways. Lafreniere’s first power-play point was a game-winning goal. It came on March 9 in a 6-2 Rangers win over the Philadelphia Flyers with 37 seconds left in the first period. Mika Zibanejad and Vincent Trocheck had the assists. Also against the Flyers, Lafreniere had an assist on a goal by Zibanejad.

In the Rangers’s win over the Flames, Lafreniere had another game-winning goal and power-play point. Lafreniere opened the scoring with a power-play goal and game-winning goal with two minutes and 33 seconds left in the first period. Zibanejad and Adam Fox had the assists. Lafreniere then finished his week with one goal and one assist for two points in a 6-3 Rangers win over the Winnipeg Jets on March 12.

In 2025-26, Lafreniere has 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points in 67 games. He is a -10 with 16 penalty minutes, eight power-play points, five game-winning goals, 132 shots on goal, seven faceoff wins, 40 blocked shots, 79 hits, 18 takeaways, and 39 giveaways.
