Abigail Strate wins World Cup bronze in Japan

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta won a World Cup women’s ski jumping bronze medal in Zao, Japan. The podium finish came on a normal 102 metre hill on Wednesday. For Strate, this was her ninth World Cup medal. She has one gold medal, three silver medals and five bronze medals.

In Wednesday’s World Cup, Strate had a score of 222.3 points. Lisa Eder of Austria won the gold medal with a score of 227.9 points. Nika Prevc of Slovenia won the silver medal with 226.5 points. Strate reached the podium by 2.6 points over Agnes Reisch of Germany, who had a score of 219.7 points.

In the World Cup women’s ski jumping standings, Strate is currently sixth with 753 points. She is behind Prevc (1596 points), Nozomi Maruyama of Japan (1238 points), Eder (1057 points), Anna Odine Stroem of Norway (872 points), and Selina Freitag of Germany (796 points).

This was Strate’s fourth World Cup medal this season. She also won gold in Oberstdorf, Germany on New Year’s Day, silver in Lillehammer, Norway on November 22, 2025, and silver in Wisla, Poland on December 4.

Strate won her Olympic bronze medal in the mixed team ski jumping event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. Her bronze medal in Zao will give her confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
