
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta has won two World Cup ski jumping medals in Sapporo, Japan. Strate now has won 11 World Cup ski jumping medals in her career, as she has won one gold medal, five silver medals, and five bronze medals. Strate has now won six World Cup ski jumping medals this season.
Both World Cup silver medals came in large hill events on a 137 metre ski jump. On Saturday, Strate had a score of 273.9 points. Nika Prevc of Slovenia won the gold medal with 279.4 points. Anna Odine Stroem of Norway won the bronze medal with 260.3 points. Strate reached the podium by 17.2 points. Nozomi Maruyama of Japan finished in fourth place with a score of 256.7 points.
On Sunday, Prevc won gold again with 134.5 points. Strate’s second place score was 129.2 points. Heidi Dyhre Trasserud of Norway won the bronze medal with 124.6 points. Strate reached the podium by 8.2 points over Selina Freitag of Germany, who had 121 points. It should be noted that Sunday’s World Cup was only one round, while Saturday’s World Cup was two rounds. The reason for only one round was because of wind and snowfall according to Yahoo! Sports.
In the World Cup women’s ski jumping standings, Strate is in fifth place with 913 points. Prevc leads with 1796 points.
Strate won the bronze medal in mixed team ski jumping at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The silver medals will give Strate confidence as she prepares for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
