
Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Abigail Strate of Calgary, Alberta won her first career World Cup ski jumping gold medal. It came on Thursday in Oberstdorf, Germany.
Strate posted a total score of 268.2 points in a large hill event of 137 metres. Ping Zheng of China won the silver medal with a score of 257.7 points. Selina Freitag of Germany won the bronze medal with a score of 257.3 points. Strate reached the podium by 11.6 points. Nika Prevc of Slovenia finished in fourth place with a score of 256.6 points. It was a dominant performance for Strate, as she beat her nearest competitor by 10.5 points.
This was Strate’s eighth World Cup medal. She has three silver medals and four bronze medals. This was Strate’s third World Cup medal this season as she won two silver medals. Strate was second in Lillehammer on November 22 and second in Wisla, Poland on December 4.
In the World Cup women’s ski jumping standings, Strate is in fourth place with 569 points. Her Olympic bronze medal came in the mixed team event at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. The timing for Strate’s gold medal could not be any better. It is one month prior to the start of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
